If you don't have kids you may not know that the Friends of Greenwood Playground does a lot of events and fundraising to provide programming and supplies for the Playground. One of the big accomplishments was getting ride on toys and tricycles for community use to be kept at the Playground. We've heard some snippets here and there about people leaving the playground w the toys or older kids breaking them and most recently about parents letting kids know their turn is up! This gentle reminder of playground etiquette was posted on KWT...
As the season comes to an end we'd like to thank everyone who donated toys, materials, money and time to the Greenwood Playground this summer.
Unfortunately the spirit in which the toys were donated is not always the spirit by which they are used. It has come to our attention that older kids are riding and sometimes breaking these toys. Additionally some parents have been bullying kids, caregivers, and other parents when they feel it is their kid's turn. Just as we share the swings, we share the toys.
While a child may appear to be taking a long turn with the toy, please remember that these are kids. Do not yell at or touch another child. Do not be rude or talk down to a caregiver or parent. Use the moment as a teachable moment. Teach your child to be patient.
We are always open to additional donations. Please contact us on this listserv if you have a ride-on toy or other playground appropriate toy you'd like to donate.
We are sure this was just one or two rotten apples and applaud the Friends of Greenwood group for their hard work and contribution to the community!

Craft time @ Greenwood Playground
On Monday (Sept 10) at the Greenwood Playground, local parent, Tracy O'Connor is offering a craft class at 3:30. In fact she is in need of egg cartons (if you would like to donate one please drop them off at the parks house). After school at 3.30 bring your child by for free craft time! The project is making caterpillars out of old egg cartons with paint, markers, pipe cleaners, some glue. Probably suitable for ages 3-7.
We'd also like to give Tracy some props here for volunteering her time. Previously the craft time was being coordinated by the Friends of Greenwood Playground group but offered by the Greenwood Playground Parks Associate. The PA was moved rather then allow for the craft time to be cancelled Stacy stepped up and offered to host the craft time. Just one of the reasons why this community works! Thanks Stacy!
If you are interested in volunteering with the Friends of Greenwood group let Tracy know at craft time today or email (we'll be posting this address as soon as we get permission).

Are you tired of packing up your stroller with large toys your child insists on taking to the playground? How about the multiple stops it takes to get to the playground because the unwieldly toy keeps falling out or jams the wheels?

Get Involved with Greenwood Playground
Greenwood Playground Looking for Volunteers!!!!
The Greenwood Playground successfully fund raised last year and now have some money to spend on summer programming in the park. The problem? They absolutely need help and new members.
Do you have great ideas for fun programming to bring to our playground?
Do you know anyone who would like to teach some arts and crafts?
Can you devote some time and energy to a community toy drive or help create a "toy library" in the park for kids to check out games and balls to play with while there?
Do you like to shop at Toys R Us and help to purchase some games for the older kids to use? Would you like to help organize another neighborhood party with music and possible fundraising.
If so, the playground and kids need you! Please join the following list serve to find out more:
